This Saturday I am running the Mt Washington Hillclimb and am thinking about taking a trail back down the mountain if the weather is nice.

Can anyone recommend an easy route that would put me closest to where the Auto Road starts?

I don't mind a short hitch-hike, but I don't prefer the Lion's Head trail (since I recall that being very steep from a past winter's trip).

Thanks in advance!

:)

Boot Spur?

How about Boott Spur? That's much more pleasant than Lions head for descent, it's longer but hooks up with Tuckerman ravine trail further down. You take Davis Path on the summit to the Boott spur trail and down, very scenic trip.

Ditto the Nelson Crag Trail but when you reach Old Jackson Road, consider turning left and following the AT, which soon crosses the Auto Road at a pull-off near the two-mile mark. It should be easy to catch a ride or walk to your car from there.
