trails: crawford path, eisenhower loop trail, webster cliff trail, webster-jackson trail
conditions: parked at highland center. pretty busy over there by the afternoon. crawford path had a well packed snowshoe track to treeline. to eisenhower was a mix of powder snow, crusty rime snow, bare rock and a bit of ice. someone before us had busted through most of the drifted snow, but no drifts were too substantial. a couple spots on eisenhower loop require care in snowshoes. ice underneath the powder in a couple key places. trail from pierce to mizpah cut-off well broken out, but chewed up from bareboots. the trail to jackson had not been touched since the last storm and we broke it out through 1-2 feet of snow with a few deep drifts and filled in areas below the summit. a couple tricky route finding spots, especially around the first bog, but generally not an issue. a well packed track from the summit of jackson to the trailhead. water crossings on webster jackson were mostly frozen over.
equipment: we wore snowshoes the whole hike. having crampons along for eisenhower a good idea in case conditions change.
comments: nice day. overcast and ominous looking all day with snow finally catching up to us somewhere around mizpah hut. despite the overcast views were clear and quite nice until the snow rolled in. thanks to cynthia for a good hike.
