Etymology of Galehead Mountain?

Just a wild guess... but it stands at the head of the Gale River :)

There are a couple of theories about the origin of the name "Gale." The older one is that a Mr. Gale sent a gun to Ethan Allen Crawford. Why the river or mountain would then have been named after him nobody seems to know. "Gale" was on Bond's 1853 map. But Franconians like to believe that the river at least is named after Susannah Gale, on whose land the Gale spring was located according to an early town historian. (Haven't checked her dates to see if she precedes Bond's 1853 map.)
 
There are no blowdowns up there to warrant a view.. so Gale wasn't named for the wind :p
