So,while we all wait for winter to return, does anybody have any favorite winter camping places they would like to share?

It just seems a little slow here, and I had nothing brilliant to add about Nalgene bottles! :D

now this is a useful thead- but the response may be low b/c some folks don't like to give their spots out - cuz they like to be alone in the woods  .........but not me... more the merrier :D :D

not a clue if its legal or not becuase I didn't take my tape measure with me but a few years ago, we camped on laffeyette on the a the far side of the frozen lake - I don't have a clue if we were on th ice or not, but it wasn't a warm winter so that wasn't a problem - we may or may not have been within 1/4 mile from the hut. but i don't worry about these minor details!!

thanks to metsky's site

http://hikethewhites.com/skookumchuck/nlaf07.jpg - way off to the right.

I also like grey knob, harvard cabin, hermit lake, etc.. I bet the great gulf is fun as hell - but I have not camped there in winter.

Barnes feild is nice for groups.

Along the Wilderness Trail and Shoal Pond Trail in the Pemi are a number of good spots. I know that's vague, but...
I always like Ethan Pond, too.

A Dacks vote: Marcy Dam. It's not the highest or hardest spot to get to, for sure, but it's a jumping off point and it's been a special place to me for 30 years, especially in the winter. Actually, I've only ever been there in the winter. I'll be there in 2 weeks. :)

Slide Dam in Baxter State Park. Sure, we first went there for peakbagging, we now return for camping. And reservations are easy to get; not many crazies who enjoy camping rather than staying in a warm bunkhouse :)

The Bluff just off the Great Gulf Trail is an awesome spot (along with all the other GG designated camp sites). Beautiful, less travelled place, especially in winter...

Davis Pond for it's remote feel and awesome cliffy/water scenery. Davis feels like the west's best.
Desolation (GENERAL AREA) just behind or.... in front of Mt Mt Carrigain.
A great trout brook for food. Spent a few days there eating trout and wacking the Pemi wilderness.
Just east of Zeland summit. just off the trail. High camp sheltered no water must melt..Winter only.
Other sites are staying private, sorry

I will give up a few favorites
Three Ponds
Ethan Pond
Wauchapauka Pond( I gotta get back there soon-haven't been for several years)
Osgood Platforms
Haven't camped The Bluff in winter, but it's on the short list.

And of course I have a couple in "private stock"!
