We had a nice crowd both Friday and Sat nights at TarryHo. Jim had a nice large fire for us both nights where he offered up several picnic tables to burn along with a ton of wood, so much that this morning there was still a large pile left over.

Sat night for the cookout there were about 50 of us between those camping there and those that stopped by to socialize.

I talked to Jim this morning to see how he felt it went and am happy to say he thought the group was wonderful. He loved that we had decorated the campground with flag, and find hikers in general a nice group of people. We will be able to do it again at TarryHo next year!

I am really glad to hear that because it was absolutely the best post hike event gathering I have attended -- nice mellow group of people, great eats and conversation, wonderful campfire. Thanks for hosting us!

Sorry to of missed the gathering, was hoping to stop by but it was a long trail down from Isolation and it was late when we hiked out..so Dinner was first priority!!

We had a good group on Isolation and a few extras that hiked up to join in which was sweet.. Even had a 48 finisher of Sno_gabe's Son!!! :D

Great day with good food (thanks Davebear) and great friends!!!:D

Sorry that I missed this one. Time got away while tail-gating at Ammy parking lot so had to go directly to event at Tony's Italian Grille in Woodstock. Will definitely stop by next year.

I am sorry I missed the post hike extravaganza at the Tarry-Ho. I think Bob and Geri should be nominated for the "Jefferson Award" for outstanding public service in the hiking community. These folks are constantly opening up their doors to us......... All in favor?:D

Aye! Big thanks also to Jim the owner, he took great care of Flags people too.

I got final confirmation today. All 48 peaks were covered for Flags on the 48. I'm pretty sure this was our 6th year in a row of getting all 48 covered.

Thanks to everyone here who helped out with the event. Every little bit helps.

A really big thank you goes to New Hampshire. He co-ordinated some last minute cancellations and put everything in place to get them all covered.

Mount Monroe

Here is go's Monroe post on http://forums.flagsonthe48.org/viewtopic.php?t=2844

Another year ... how quickly the years go by.

I do this hike to remember those who died that day and also to honor the police and firemen who gave all to help their fellow New Yorkers and Americans.

I grew up in NYC and watched those towers being built. There were 19 alumni from my high school, Saint Francis Prep, who became Heroes that day, two of which were in my graduating class - Vinny Giammona and Al Niedermeyer. I bring a special flag each year, called the Flag of Heroes, which has the names of my high school friends, and all the emergency services personel who died that day. (You can see a picture of the flag in the gallery.)

I always look forward to this event, but on the ride over from Maine I always get very sad. What must it have been like to be climbing those stairs that day? I picked Mt Monroe in 2002 because of the staircase like trail going up the Ammo trail. I like to do the hike up alone so I can reflect and remember the Heroes. I will not forget them.

Since 2002 Gary, Susan and I have done this same peak and have made a committment to do it every year as long as our knees will allow us. Gary always brings his clarranet to play for us, which adds tremendously to the experience. This year the official flag was put up by Frodo who is a good friend. It was very special to share this day with him, a fellow New Yorker. It was great to see Dr D. again, as well as Swamp Yankee, and all the others who visited that day.

Thank you all for your participation.

I will never forget!
