It appears Field and South Carter have lost their hikers and are not currently covered for the Flags event this Saturday. If you are interested in carrying a flag to the summit of one of these for the September 11th Memorial please visit The Flags on the 48 homepage and sign up. There are a handful of guys who run this (I'm not one of them), who have done a fantastic job over the last 6 years with this event. It would be a shame and a disappointment if all 48 peaks were not covered. Thanks for looking.

Indeed, South Carter and Field are open. Maybe we'll get lucky by Saturday.

To everyone involved: Thanks for signing up!

Are there any flag setups available from the cancelees? If setups were readily available (could be picked up at the trailhead, or a neighboring trailhead) it might encourage folks to come out of the woodwork.

If you want to ask that in the Forums section of Flags on the 48, there certainly may be some extra rigs available. On a summit like Field, it'd be nice if the pole got the flag up over the trees, but it certainly is not a requirement.
A simple rig, like a 4x6 flag from home and some cord up a tree would be way better than not having anyone there. The idea is the Memorial. You could hike up with "pocket" parade type flags if you wanted to.

Just stick a flag on Matts, it looks like his progress is about a day and maybe a half behind which would actually put him on South Carter about noon. Maybe you could just slap him good luck on the back with a USA sticker. Or, give him a beer with a USA label on it.

The Flags do not need to be large at all. Anything really will do. It does not even have to be a American Flag. A New Hampshire State flag, a Canadian Flag, a Peace flag have all flown before as well as flags from Louisana and Mississippi. It does not matter which Flag makes it. We do have some hikers who have volunteered to be backup hikers in case of cancellations. Hopefully, we'll get everything squared away at the KOA tonight.

Thanks to all that have helped out
