I am planning a trip to Mt Isolation. My son is on his last two 4K's. You can guess what the other one is.

1. Is there "mostly legal" camping at the site of the former Isolation shelter.

2. What about the immediate area if the answer to #1 is NO?

3. How far does one have to decend on the Isolation Trail, in order to find water?

I would really love to backpack the entire Davis path, but I only have one night available for this adventure. I have done the Rocky Branch too many times, so I'd like to avoid that route this time. I'm thinking of going up Glen Boulder and down Boott Spur on this trip, with the one night near the former Isolation shelter.

Any input would be appreciated.

When I was there 2 years ago, there was a marked backcountry campsite right at the Davis/Isolation junction, accessible from either trail (but only signed on the Davis side). Water was just a few minutes down the Isolation trail where a small but steady flow crossed the path. Lacking that, it would be another 5-10 minutes further down.

There was a trail crew in there last week tidying up the signs and trails around the backcountry sites (legal) near the Davis Path and Isolation Trail junction. My recollection is that there is sure water on the fifth crossing of the Rocky Branch which is about a half mile from the Davis Path over easy terrain.
