Garmin GPS to support micro SD cards

Just in time to miss the holiday buying!

I know there have been a few threads recently regarding GPSs. Garmin today announced they have an "x" series of GPSs that have micro SD card slots. The color Legend, Vista, 60 and 76 are those with it, shipping 1Q06. Their offering is similiar to Lowrance's in that you can buy the cards pre-loaded with maps.

I wonder if they let users save/load waypoint+track sets to the SD cards. That's one of the reasons I bought my Lowrance.

In the earlier units, waypoint and track memories have been separate from the mapping memory. The specs for waypoints, routes, and tracks look the same for the 60CS and the 60CSx so it looks like the memories remain separate.

I also wonder why they chose the MiniSD cards. Would have been nice to use the regular SD cards (like the Magellan eXplorist series, plus many cameras, phones and other devices).
