Left long island at 1 am arrived app 7-8 am and joined a group.
...hiked Camel's Hump ...cloudy, foggy and real windy...nice company..sweated in the car, that's how humid it was..

Stayed up late listening to many different chants..

Hiked with Madtownie and Periwinkle to Mansfield...fun...congrates to Michael J...the bubbly was good but watch out for that first gulp...lots of foam...thx Stan for the Tequila

Lost my rookie status i was told...my 8th 4k.. but i need to learn more from others...gotta go ...

Bein' fresh at the gathering after a 4K climb, a wet whack, and a whole mess of driving, I still managed to kick back a few and stay up Saturday night representing the "39 and under" folks (mighty lonely though...). Looks like some of the skills I learned in college ARE helping me in life! :) I had such a great time in the short time I was there that I can't wait for next year (we'll see about Maine).

Teejay, I'll send you something too. That woman in the office was shooting death rays at me from her eyes when I said who I was with. I thought it was because of my BO! I think she's gaffing you big time. Sorry man. That's not cool. :(

Ya' should have had the doctor pay her a visit! :D

Never let it be said we went quietly into the night.

Yeah, we overdid it Friday night but it was a good time ... until Saturday morning. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that when I stopped at Police Headquaters, looking for directions, that they were closed so it appeared that we had the town all to ourselves

I think Pat is right and I nominate him for master-at-arms ... and he has the arms to go with it.

Anything the campground charged us for electricity is trivial compared to the costs and aggravation we may have caused in cleaning up the bathroom blockages and in the loss of goodwill I'm sure they encountered. That has been one of the best maintained and prettiest campgrounds I've stayed at. I hope they don't blackball us through their campground association.

In my apologies to our neighbors I offerred, if it was any consolation, that we paid the penance for our indulgences. Half of us were too sick to pursue the passion that brought us together, the other half were too sick to know better. I paid my price with every step the first couple miles up Mansfield.

Thanks teejay, for organizing it and for taking the heat so graciously.

I look forward to the next Gathering(s). Temporary indiscretions aside, it's a terrific bunch of people.

And Peri, that was me and my 4Runner, going 80, that you flew by ... going ???

Thank GOD I came on Saturday. No wonder everyone was so subdued. No worry about being blacklisted Stan, we'll simply call ourselves something else next time. How does the "ripped tent gang" sound? or the "where's the goddam door" crew. Perhaps the New England Biblical Choir Group would do it. Or, the Deaf and Dumb tea-totallers society.
On another note: If the next gathering is in winter then it will take a rather large fire (two is better) so the musicians can do their thing.

80?!! OMG!!!! I thought I was going pretty fast, but 80+??? Can I yet again say that it was the Rental Car from H@ll, not me????

Long drive up and back but it was still a lot of fun
I hiked Abraham, Ellen, Camels Hump and most of Mansfield but I will have to get back for that one. First time in VT hiking and the trails are the best maintained I have been on. It will be nice to get the views next time.

Friday night well sorry to all it won't happen again; well not by me anyway.
Saturday night was great. Good people, music and fire what could be better.
Teejay I will pay my share
Al

Sorry I missed this...sounds like you guys had fun! Unfortunately it clashed with an Orienteering event that I had been looking forward to all year. I spent 8 hours Saturday bushwacking the Laurentian hills in the pouring rain.
At least I didn't wimp out because of the weather.

Many a first for me..

first time in Vermont..looked pretty driving home
first summit... Camel's hump
first time hiking in a summer rain with thunder..not to scarry but kept me thinking
first time drinking bubbly out of a bottle on a peak...got it on class mascot
first time "leaving" at 1 am to go on a trip...drank to much coffee and red bull...felt sick
first summer gathering...very nice
first time not really sleeping the first night...tired
first time hiking with..TeeJay, Bubba, John, Stan, Periwinkle..nice folks...2nd and 3rd time with Madtownie
first time drinking Tequila at the end of a hike...excellent
first "chomp" breakfast sandwich...great
first 8% beer! but i shared it and only drank 1/2 so that's 4% right?...ok

just wanted to say i had a fun time and i dreamt about going back to Vermont to see the colors...just might have to wait until next year..will send pictures when my computer is up

A huge THANK YOU to all of you who helped ease my pain and soothe the effects of the campground's "revenge".

This sort of thing will never, ever happen again. Gathering 9.0 will be someplace that I will decide on. I will start accepting non-refundable reservations now in advance to be paid in cash, good check or Paypal to me. The cost will be $35 per night. Wherever it is held, there will be a shower charge of $5.00 ($6.00 hot), payable in advance, of course. Coffee will be $2.00 a cup. Heat it yourself. I'll wait until the last minute to schedule the Gathering so I can be sure it will rain, so if you decide to bail, bye-bye reservation money. teejay's revenge. hehehe.

All kidding aside, thanks again everyone.

Although it is a little early, does anyone have any thoughts on where we should have Gathering 9.0? Too soon for NY again, Berkshires, Poconos, Whites, eh? Any ideas? I'm listening.

teejay

The berkshires is a really nice area, central to most and a place that hasn't had a gathering so far (at least that I know of).

a dream summer/early fall spot would that little open field w the killer view up to Imp, in Dolly Copp, where they have about 5-6 RV sites and a bathroom - can't remember the name, Haines (sp) Field maybe...?

I think you are referring to Barnes Field.
Nope, but close! I mean exactly what i said - there is a sweet open field RV site w/ tent sites just beyond (and has a name "xxx field") about 1/2 to 2/3 way inside Copp on left and about 1/4 -1/2 mile before you get to the end. :D

Sounds like it was fun...sorry I missed it, Teejay!

I'm going to try to keep any other plans from getting in the way of 9.0.

In the meantime, I'm going to try to be there for 8.5, which will be my first introduction to Maine hiking!
