My read on the long range forecasts is the folks down along the coast are going to come north to get away from the snow:). Usually the mountains stop most of the heavy stuff from getting up to my place, but the folks in the Campton Waterville valley usually make up for what I dont get.

Are these the same people who bring us the dire hurricane forecasts each year, which haven't been materializing (except for Irene up here )?

Interesting link, Ellen. Thanks for posting it. Always interesting to see how close to the prediction the reality turns out to be.

We can only hope.
Had to buy new boots for my new orthotics. Insulated to -35. Very lightweight and comfy. We are ready.
Garmont GTX Momentum SNOW boots. Nice price with the REI 20% member discount. Shipped in 2 days! :)

Last winter the "experts"claimed we would have moderate snow. What we need is 1)steady flow of moisture from gulf of Mexico and 2)A GREENLAND Block. The Greenland block is what helped give us our dump of two years ago.
Weather channel is predicting above average temps for the northeast till the end of the year so I am very pessimistic. The sky gods laughed at me last winter maybe I will pray to Thor this year, just to try something different.
Maddy I payed 80 bucks for my garmonts at ems because they were missing a stitch, you should check them out sometime, their discount rack is way cool!
Ellen if there is lousy snow this year,we can do a bunch of manch. vftt beer nights right?[to drown our sorrows]

One of my favorite witty formulations of the Barefoot Sisters in their books is when jackrabbit nicknames Mala the "Brü-Hiker." :)
I have gotten to briefly know several thru hikers in maine the last couple of years,my favorite one was a dude named "next beer".I asked how far he was going to make it and he said"till the next beer".Wonder how far he did get?Maybe to P.A.He was heading south.

One would hope, for his sake, he made it at least as far as the Long Trail Inn. ...

Now that sounds like a plan: drown our sorrows, save gas, make up stories, help local businesses prosper...

I am one who heads for the discount rack at EMS. My best finds are usually gloves that have a slight stitch gap in a seam. An easy fix.
