What can you say. Last Sunday was a perfect day to be above tree line. I had to be back in time for dinner so I headed up early and started up the bike bath From the White House Trailhead parking around 7:00am. Except for a few patches of snow the ground was bare.
Approaching the stream crossings a bit of snow was present on the trail but it wasn't until 2500' that there was enough snow to warrant some traction. I went with my microspikes for the rest of the day. By the time I reached the Liberty Springs Campsite the snow was fully covering the ground.
At the Franconia Ridge junction it was clear there was still deep snow up here.
The trail was hard packed but if you ventured a step off trail you were in for a posthole past your knees. Approaching Mt Liberty the views opened up with the clear blue sky.
Cannon Mountain
Mt Liberty
Having the summit all to myself with sunny skies and no wind was incredible. Very peaceful up here on such a great day. The summit of course was bare rock with all the warm weather we've had so I sat for a bit and drank in the views before heading off to Mt Flume. Flume gives some great prespectives on the entire Franconia Range so I took a few panoramas.
After taking pictures on Flume I headed back the way I had come. I stopped on Liberty again to eat my lunch before heading down. It was now just past noon and I still had not see another hiker. I couldn't believe on such a nice day that I had the whole place to myself. Shortly after leaving the summit I ran into a couple who were also out enjoying the day.
After the hike my knees were a bit sore from banging on all the rocks. Man I miss Winter!
