Oh, the rigors! I've received a photo request for an image of the auto road in winter, as well as Tuckerman Ravine, for a college geology textbook. I already have many images of the ravine, but not of the auto road in winter.

So I want to hike and shoot on Saturday. I know the view of the auto road from Mt Madison summit is pretty good. Does anyone know of a better angle, one that might show more of the road winding up the mountain?

You get a pretty good view from the open ledge area on Mt Suprise when heading to Mt Moriah. With a good zoom and tripod you should get some great shots. See our trip report from March for a few shots - you can make out the auto road in the pics of Washington - these were taken with a 24-120 lens, probably set at about 80.

Nice picture Seema!

HERE is a shot from the ledges just above Mt Surprise and HERE is another from slightly higher up. You can see the road in these but it's not that obvious.

Dave, you're havin' fun! Thanks for the pics of the Gulf of Slides, also.

Thanks, BobandGeri, Hikerbob and Sli74 for pics of the auto road. Good food for thought (trip planning).

Fish, check out Dave's pics of Tuckerman Ravine. They say it all :)
