In the words of the Blues Bros. 'you guys are on a Mission from God'

I've been to Grace's homes and my kids played at Boulders when they were little, and they wrote and received many heartfelt 46er letters from her. We used to see her all the time at ADK programs and she was a dear lady and good friend.

I know it nots done out of any bad intent, but its still uncomfortable to read when folks who don't know who she was and what she did for thousands wonder why a peak should be named for her. No criticism is intended nor would I want to quibble with anyone who feels differently.

I agree with the sentiments about using the name Grace. That IS how she wanted to be referred to, even in her 90's and by everyone. The name Grace fit her perfectly, and it will fit the mountain that will eventually carry her name in the same way.

I never knew Grace, and only met her once, at one of the 46er meetings. However, my father-in-law (now deceased) worked closely with her at the State Department, and I've always felt a vicarious "kinship" with her as a result. Perhaps Joanne will chime in with some further thoughts.

She taught us all, how to love and respect the Mountains. For those who knew Grace and had the privilege to Correspond with her, her letters to us will be deeply treasured!

She's still teaching too......... through her legacy. I consider myself a beneficiary of it.
