This 3x previously postponed trip finally happened. We had a good forecast for this bushwhack from the north. Its all private property from the Elk Creek side but a local had gotten us a pass to hike and the trip was built around a look for 1st growth forest.

Began the hike through a pair of beautiful meadows which continued as a woods road. Climbing higher, we came to a couple of forks in the road and took them. The route became an ATV track over old logging roads. Hitting the ridgeline we were aiming at, we followed it to the top and canister. After a lunch break, headed back the way we came until reaching the old hunting trailer in the middle of a fernfield we'd seen on the way up. Took another woods road all the way down until emerging in another huge meadow, scooted a small creek nearer to our cars.
The weather was perfect, the flies a non issue, and lots of good conversation, including one involving our hiking pianist and the local hiker who is a brass musician. That of course led to an inquiry as to whether he had an active sax life .

...which no doubt led to a lively discussion about whether a saxophone is a brass or woodwind instrument.
