Hmm. The lot for this trailhead wasn't plowed today. A few cars and trucks were there but they plowed themselves in. Greely Pond lot was plowed.

Here's another question though. We are now warned about the highway crossing but does anyone know if there are pedestrian crossing signs in both directions warning drivers of us? I don't remember seeing those there.

I think there are warnings about the trailhead on either side I will try and pay attention next time I go by that way

speeding...that's the problem. The speed is clearly marked for 20 mph. 99% of drivers cannot process the idea of 20mph. Most are already doing 70mph in a 50mph zone...or is it 40mph. Moose signs, hairpin signs, reduced speed signs, pedestrian signs...blah, blah. They go as fast as they want.

The Kanc is a 35 mile long race track without speed traps. It is well regarded in motorcycle circles in particular. It's as much of a draw for them, and many others, as any other tourist destination. Hairpin turns are considered a sweet spot, an especially tastey place to get low....there's no way in hell they are going 20. Same goes for drivers of sports cars. They look forward to the hairpin.

So, consider yourself much luckier than the moose because you know to look, listen and scoot across the road.

The only problem is that the hairpin turn isn't banked for speed!!! I'm afraid of flying off the curve if I go above 20 there!!!!

yup! True! It's amazing but just sit quietly on the tailgate in the parking lot and listen to the sqeeling tires. When I drive the hairpin, I EXPECT AN A-HOLE to be losing it and crossing the yellow line. It's happened a few times over the years.

It's a hoot on a bicycle :D :D :D

Tim

Every time I see cyclists on the kanc I'm terrified of someone hitting them!!!! I have been terrified bike-spotting on the kanc, myself... (on my mtn bike, NOT my road bike)

Anyway, even on a road bike, it just isn't banked properly, I don't think - is it enough so????? (i've never tried it)

.

Sports cars. Motorcycles. THey have nothing on the box trucks that drive it daily as part of their delivery run. Got tailgated all the way to the top by one the other day. Pulled off at the summit to let him by so he wouldn't be all over me on the way down.
