This was my 3rd visit to the area, in 3 different decades. The last section of the road from the S requires high clearance so some may wish to park near the radio tower. (Forget the N approach without off-road 4wd.) Parked across from High Blue sign at area occasionally used for target practice - the sign looked new and may be one I varnished at the work day last year. Talked to jeep driver who had just seen flock of turkeys and a couple deer, and local with gorgeous Bernese Mountain Dog.

First took trail to L to High Blue viewpoint to W, which then loops E to road. Walked up to high point and took obscure cairned trail SE - this is not on the High Blue Reservation but apparently some other conservation property. The summit is not as distinct as the 7.5' quad would indicate as it has many quartz outcrops with similar elevation. My goal for the day was to use a GPS to see where the USGS thought the summit was -it said among a group of outcrops NW of the trail which are probably as high as anywhere. The trail descends to a SE viewpoint before looping back to the road shortly below where the High Blue trail came out. Easy walk back to car - probably a total of only 300' elevation gain in a mile although all the ups and downs made it seem like more.
