Hey, this is a great opportunity to avoid confronting the people you hike with about hiking to close....If I can hear your breathing or I can see your hiking pole out of my peripheral vision, you're too darn close!! Be forewarned!! ;)

For those I DO hike with, I said HIKING pole! :p :rolleyes:

A similar concern is trekking pole safety... after multiple near-misses from the sharp end of the leading hiker's pole, I now repeat to myself "pole etiqette, pole etiqette" at the start of hikes to remind myself to careful with my poles and maintain adequate spacing.

A bit like an ice axe--you should be aware of where the sharp points are at all times...
