Last one for now to get me caught up. I only have time at work to write these.
We used the herd path toward East Dix's Great Slide, but when the herd path takes the sharp left toward the slide we continued on up the Bouquet. The river is pretty conjested past the fork, so we pushed on for a while until we decided to just leave it and head up to the ridge on the right. The woods are pretty thick near the brook but eventually open up into open Black Spruce and hemlock. Our plan was to go to Carson and then to Grace but the open forest and terrain kept pushing us right and we ended up closer to Hough, so we went for it. It's a very steep climb on that side but we eventually topped out on the ridge 50 feet from the summit.
The hike over to Carson was a normal hike in the Dix's as was the section to Grac. From Grace we took a B-line toward Spotted and traverse actually along a light herd path to the next bump o the ridge, which is open rock. Then to the next bump through thicker trees and an even slighter herd path, better views. The Spotted, I love that spot, you have to see it for yourself.
From here we changed course and decided not to revisit E-town #4, we rather headed straight back to the Bouquet herd path and back to the car. This side of Spotted is actually better higher up. The closer we got to the herd path the more rubble and branches and second growth we encountered.
Not a bad day, 3 peaks 10 hours. Only saw two hikers all day. Sunny is now up to 87 peaks.
