Potential Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service is currently predicting the possibility of a severe storm event to arrive in New England beginning Sunday (10/28) evening and possibly lasting through Thursday (11/1). The Forest Service is strongly advising against backcountry travel in the White Mountain National Forest during this time period. Extreme caution should be exercised due to heavy rain or snow, possible flooding, adverse road conditions, and falling trees across the Forest during this time period. This message will be updated as forecasts or conditions change. (posted 10/25/2012)

And as a corollary to the storm warning - keep in mind that certain trails which cross large drainage areas may have brooks which run high for a few days after, possibly into next weekend. In the Whites, the Hancocks, Isolation, and North Twin come immediately to mind - there are others. Granted, there are some workarounds for some peaks, like doing Isolation from Glen Boulder, but something to keep in mind. Good idea to have a Plan B for a few days after the storm passes if it lives up to the warnings being issued now.

Agree..Crossings could be bad wed-friday.Wild river is a example that comes to mind....

The main force is well south of Upstate NY. We're expecting high winds and two inches of rain, local flooding.. What are some of you all expecting in the other states, inland?
