Now I Understand!!!!

Took the Slide trail yesterday... not yet broken out. 1 pair of snowshoe tracks for the first mile then they turned back. I continued to the base of the Slide & was exausted. That alone took me almost 5 hours... couldn't summit... ran out of time as it was already 1:00pm. Midday spring sun had softened up the snow kept falling in knee to waist deep. Unfrigginbelievably difficult hike. Did a little bushwacking for pictures off the trail along the way and got trapped several times. Had to remove backpack to get out.

Gotta go to work... full trip report ASAP

Welcome to the fun of solo bushwacking on (in?) deep snow. Sometimes helps to bring some suckers^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hfriends to help.

Bigger snowshoes can help too. (<Rant on> Many (most?) modern snowshoes are far too small for deep fresh powder. <Rant off>)
