I'm finally back and cleared to hike after missing out the last 5 weeks since i broke my finger on Greylock! i don't have full movement nor full strength in that hand yet so i was wondering what would be a good mountain to hike that is fairly easy but still a 4k in NH that doesn't require a lot of rock grabbing for support because if i fall on the hand again there is still risk of reinjuring it. any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks :D

Here's an idea/s...

Go for Hale. Not too many step sections that would cause you to fall and re-injure your finger. Not much of a view, but the hike is really nice. The water fall at Zealand Hut is nice if you chose to hike in that way.

or

Wilderness Tr. would be another good choice. It's flat and you would not need to use your hands at all. Not a 4k, but an easy rehab hike.

or

Mount Passaconway via Dicey Mills is another good 4k you could do. Most of the way the trail is a moderate climb with not too many step sections (if any). This one will offer the best views.

I don't think it has to be said, but I would also like to point out that when hiking/backpacking you should be prepared for anything. A finger that might not be perfect most likely won't be an issue, but you never know. You should ask yourself if you did happen to fall and re-injure your finger would it cause you more danger? Proabably not, but it's worth thought.

Waumbek and Hale come immediately to mind as easy 4Ks. Plus you won't have to worry about holding a camera with your sore hand while taking pictures of a panoramic view.

Crawford Path to Pierce,
Hale as mentioned
Waumbek & Passaconaway as mentioned
Garfield, a little steep at top but I don't recall hands being needed & provides views of many more destinations.

Greylock to exorcise an unpleasent experience - if you had not specified a height requirement or where you're injury took place, this would have been a recommendation via Cheshire Harbor & AT

Timely Question

I just broke my thumb and find out today the if and when on surgery (which I expect). But I'm hoping to hit the trail soon after, cast and all. I am already designing tools to attach to my cast, things like hooks used for aid climbing to catch an edge of rock, or a bigger hook to grapple a tree. I hope I can talk the folks in the cast room into some attachment points.

Unfortunately, since I am on a list quest, all of these great suggestions for the mellow hikes are already checked off. And I think I'll stay off the N. Pyramid slide trail, even though I was looking forward to repeating that one soon.

Keep us posted on the recovery!
