I have just seen literally dozens of these things on Star Lake in the Adirondacks but apparently they have infested Star Lake.... I paddled Long Lake, Cranberry Lake, the Atlantic Ocean off Maine, Massachusetts, RI, NJ, Long Island. A lot of the Hudson, the pine barrens in NJ, the numerous lakes in NJ/NY and I have yet to see one of these things..
for lack of a better term, my friend and I called them "Floating docks" but they seem to be a DIY-pontoon boat aka Party barge and they power them everywhere on Star Lake, I saw at least a dozen or so of them out in the middle of the lake, on the sand bar or docked on shore... They do appear to be registered with NY but I'm still befuddled as what they call them...
