Is the ice fishing any good at Lonesome Lake? I have a co-worker who likes to fish who thinks it might be neat to hike up to Lonesome Lake to ice fish. Anyone got any knowledge whether this has any basis for success? After all it's a long way to go to get skunked. I know they stock it by airplane, but it's pretty hard to stock when it's iced over. Survival rate is pretty bad.

FYI: Lonesome Lake is a trout pond with fishing allowed from the 4th Saturday in April through October 15th.

@ Star Lake by Madison Hut. I've always wondered just how often the wild Trout lakes like Shoal Pond and Ethan Pond are illegally poached since they are supposed to be catch and return with barbless hooks.

Ethan and Shoal are actually watched pretty well by the fish and game. I have fly fished both ponds and did well. There was an incident at Ethan where several people were catching trout and keeping them, little did they know a fish and game officer was waiting there for them in the bushes. They recieved a hefty fine. Shoal gets visited so little, and especially by fisherman that I think it is pretty safe.

Good news for winter hikers who might decide to cross the lake and don't want to step into a fishing hole. ;)
