Hoping to catch some "in and out of the clouds" weather for a possible glimpse of the new snowy cloak draped upon the higher peaks, I headed up Mount Jackson at about 7:30 this am from Crawford Notch. I met Jeremy just as he was leaving the summit, headed down and on to Moriah - he had broken the trail to the summit of Jackson. Quite a few blowdowns.
Great untracked, deep snow from from Jackson to Pierce, sinking 4" to 16", with a slow elevator-ride down, energy sapping quality to the snow. A few fellows from Maine appeared behind me, announcing that they would be following me for the rest of the day as their itinerary, as they really weren't very good at following snowy trails, and didn't know the trails, and didn't know the exit routes. But they were fun.
It was cloudy in the morning, and remained so all the way to Pierce. I started heading down the Crawford Path, a bit bummed at the lack of pix, but then I started to see some patches of blue sky. So I headed back up to Pierce and arrived just as the clouds were starting to open up a bit. Great show for the next 45 minutes!:
