went for a ice hike through a crater, starts from the crater rim drive.
heads down into the crater, lots of switchbacks. once at the bottom, the trail goes right through the middle on solid lava, too bad it wasn't still soft.
did climb a couple of rock piles while i was down there, some nice steam vents around there. then it goes steeply up and around the rim back to the road.

What?! :eek: If it was soft, I doubt you'd still be here to write the TR! :eek:

But it sounds like a 'cool' hike! :D
 
Hah. Funny story about Kilauea -- My wife and I stopped at the Big Island on our honeymoon, primarily to visit and hike around volcano national park. For seven years, Kilauea had been in a state of continuous eruption (daily lava flow). A few days before our arrival, she stopped :mad: Later, on Maui atop Haleakala, we met another couple who informed us she'd just started up again :mad: :mad:

It was still a nice hike, and cool to walk around on the lava, smell the sulfur, and see the steam vents.
