In the photo above, there are two patches in the first row which I'm familiar with. But - the one in the next row - that one's new to me. Which is the winter patch vs. the all-seasons?

The two smaller ones on the top are the all season patches. The larger one in the middle is the winter patch. The round one on the bottom is a patch for the Belknap mountains. I forget exactly, but I think I was told that Lauky is the seventh dog to have received a Belknap patch. It's a very attractive patch by the way.

Lauky has two complete all season rounds and one winter round and is mid-way through another all season round. Ironically, even though we live in Maine, except for Pleasant Mt. he has hardly done any hiking at all in Maine. Duffy, except for Baxter, had done the NEHH with me.

Thanks, Ed. Your dogs are well-traveled, and it's obvious you take excellent care of them.

...Back in the early 2000s my wife gave me snowshoes for Christmas with the message "I'm giving you these so you will have something to do in the winter like hike the back woods and you won't have to do any winter mountain hiking. That was the beginning of my winter hiking. :D...

best line of the year nominee

Way to go Ed and Lauky! I was thinking today would have been a great day to get up there for Washington, but I had a VA appointment this morning which was cancelled twice, had to go. I hope I can get this done on a similar day soon! Glad Lauky got these done, I'm afraid we waited too long with Emma, at 12yo I no longer feel the need to try, she has 38, that might have to do. She sends a high paw to Lauky, and doggie kisses!

KDT

I hear you. But while 12 yrs. is near end of life for many breeds, for Emma's breed she should still have some good years left even if she slows down a bit. Best wishes to her, she's one of the best know dogs out there. Hope to see you again on the trails.

Congratuations Lauky!

Here are some more pictures from that beautiful day:

Very impressive little dog. I love the first picture of him at the summit of Mt. Washington.

Thanks Julie and everyone else. It was indeed a great day. Lauky celebrated the day by grabbing his ball the moment we walked into the house and throwing it to me asking for another round of chase the ball. OK, sorry we didn't wear you out, we'll take a longer hike next time.:p

Nice little bungee leash-- I was at REI yesterday and I noticed they are now selling skijor set ups - padded hip belt, fast back harness, and quick release tow lines....;-) ...just in case you are looking to wear
the little man out.

Definitely interesting equipment. As far as the harness goes I didn't see anything on line Lauky's size which is not surprising since his size is definitely under what one would generally consider necessary for that sport. A dog Duffy's size with Lauky's spirit would be great for that sport. I really think it would be fun. :)

Congrats to you both! I love reading your TRs because I know Lauke is an accomplished hiker. He has been a role model for Marlie. We look forward to meeting you both on the trail one day.

Congratulations Ed.

Lauky finishing the W48 means you did another lap. Well done!

Hope to see the two of you on the trails again soon.

Thanks Earl. Here's a little tidbit for you. Of all 48 peaks done in the winter the only time we didn't do it solo was that time we went with you. You're a great group leader. :)

Thanks Ed,

That's interesting. We had a large group with varied abilities and styles that got spread out more than once. I think we all enjoyed a good hike that day, I know I enjoyed it and hope you did too.

One of these days, soon I hope, we'll be sharing some trail time together again.

;)
