I broke one of my lekis at BSP a couple weeks back. Here is what I sent them in a message:

I broke my Leki Canyon antishock hiking pole. The grip at the bottom of the second section was loose, and when I pulled it out to the stop Max line, it was out too far. I didn't pay close enough attention, I knew the grip was loose. Anyways, I pushed hard on my pole to unlock my cross country skiis and I bent the pole. Being 3 miles from the cabin in Baxter State Park in winter, I figured I would try to straighten it back out. At that point, the threaded bolt that expands the plastic lock snapped. This is the top of the bottom section, and the middle section has the expander locked in place. Is this something that you can fix? Or am I better off buying a new pole? (What will it cost to repair?)

Their reply:

Robert,

I will send out a new set of sections to you.

Thank you,

Well, how about that? I thanked them profusely in a response.

I had the same exact response both times I broke a pole. In fact, what they really wanted was a section that hadn't snapped all the way - I guess they could learn how to make stronger poles - that's what the guy said anyway. Since mine had snapped(one on the ever-so-enjoyable Fishin Jimmy Trail and the other going down Tuckermans), he said he would just mail me a new section.

Bottom line - the only poles I buy for myself or to give my kids are Leki - they stand behind their product!

I have been so unlucky with poles.

We've had at least 6 pairs of Leki's and none of them could be trusted. I've been unable to fix them with new spare parts either.

Komperdells and REI's were junk.

It's Black Diamonds from now on, except that we find we are unable to collapse our 3-part hiking poles, the ones with the little red dot that you press. That happened while out West - almost had to pack them separately for the flight - they did collapse after an hour of trying - but that was the last time.

Ditto on the amazing customer service from Leki! Their lifetime guarantee really is unconditional. :)

That's why I baught them. I didn't want the hassel of dealing with another store clerk like I did when my last set broke, he seemed to whine when I ask if they could be replaced. Poor customer service is a turn off.

Ditto. I don't want to be worrying about what will happen when my pole breaks. I just don't want the damn things to break to begin with. BD for me.

I stepped on my pole and bent it. 100% my fault. I doubt a BD would survive any better -- 200# of me plus pack when stepped on it, while lying across a few rocks.

Yeah, I'm a fan of Black Diamonds, too. And I have that same freckin problem!! Drives me mad trying to retract the pole!! And when it happens, I don't know what I did differently to make it work! Ahh!! But I like 'em.

I somehow fell while my pole was stuck with my leggs straddled over one of my poles. The pole was extreemly flexed and ready to snap back up. There was no way that thing was going to wack my boys...the pole had to bend...my boys were saved and I got a new pole. :)

Oh, I've snapped my BD poles, too while skiing. I called and ordered a few replacement parts to keep handy. I now ski with two extra pieces (which can also double as a tent pole in a pinch). I just would never expect to not pay for them.

I have both Leki and BD poles and like them both.

When the Leki's break they replace the parts for free.

When the BD's break I pay for the parts.

There are lots of things in life I don't understand.

This is another one of them.

I picked up some 3-section BD's (it says "Trail Shock Flicklock" on them) that were cheaper than the top-o'-the-line ones with the tricky button. No gimmicks, no internal thingies holding the sections together, just that nice flicklock. And they collapse (when I want them to) small enough to fit in my suitcase. Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the Leki Fan Club. ;)

Yawn...

There is no need for yet another BD vs Leki debate.

They both work well if properly maintained.

The OP was expressing his gratitude that Leki replaced a broken part free of charge.

BD flicklocks are awesome.
