This hike began with my posting the intended trip of Liberty and Flume here. A resourceful lurker, Luis, found Alpinista's contact info at the AP from clues obtained from her threads and emailed her an explanation and request to forward the info to me. She did and I followed up as I was still looking for company. We met in Lincoln, parked at The Basin lot and were on the bike path by 8. Liberty Spring Trail was snow covered and contained one decent water crossing. We made steady progress and soon reached the campsite. This would be a great place to tent on platforms with easy access to water and the Ridge. On the Ridge we took a break and changed into our Alpine Zone gear, not yet adding crampons - but we could have. The summit was slick and walking was challenging in bare boots. We took pics , enjoyed the limited views north and south and decided adding Flume would make the hike feel like work. We put on our crampons and headed down. We met a couple other groups on the way out and were back to The Basin lot before 2.
This was a nice, quick peak that was more about the company than the summit or views. Luis (who will be known as "Spiney Mouse") and I have a lot in common; family and other hobbies. A very interesting guy who made his first 48 with his father as a boy, took 28 years to complete the list and keeps track of his progress in a 1969 edition hard cover WMNF Guidebook !
All in all a very pleasant morning.
