I'm planning a 4-5 day canoe outing in mid-September in the Adirondacks and am looking for suggestions. I've been in the St Regis area and the Fulton chain and would like to expand my horizons a little bit(try something new...)

Undecided at this point whether our preference is to cover a lot of ground, or do the weekend warrior kind of thing and pack two cases of beer and steaks into a base camp. I guess the trip suggestions will have some impact on that.

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Three Adirondack classics you might look at include, Raquette River from Long Lake to Axton Landing (or beyond), Oswegatchie River from Wanakena to High Falls or, a more amibitious thru-trip, Bog River Flow to High Falls to Wanakena (involves strenuous 3 mile portage), or lake paddling on Little Tupper Lake and Lake Lila.

All are covered in Paul Jamieson's wonderful book Adirondack Canoe Waters, North Flow. You'll also find abundant information about all of these trips on the net. Have fun, mid-September is a great time to paddle in the Adirondacks.

My favorite trips have involved a start at Blue Mountain Lake thru raquette, Forked and Long lakes. You could end in Long lake village for an easy 3 night 4 day trip or if you want to do miles go all the way to Tupper lake in 5 days. There is a 1.6 mile carry at the end of Forked Lake so finish the steaks and beer before then. Have a great trip.
