It's quick and easy enough to set a dead-man or snow anchor and simu-climb moderate steeps like R gully. But you gotta uncoil that rope you're carrying.

Why folks don't do this when surface condx are hard and fast, and rocks await below, I just don't know. Tripping over your front points is easy (for me) and that can very quickly set off a nasty series of events.

This climber dodged a bullet by hitting the bushes. Lucky.

Report does not say self arrest was tried. But it sure emphasizes how difficult it is to execute on hard and icy surfaces. Amen to that.

Thankfully they live to climb another day.
