March 1st snow report

Snow did not start in Franconia until after midnight. There's about 5" on the ground now at 1200', and it's coming down heavily. This storm is predicted to continue into tomorrow here.

We got a good foot in extreme Northwest NJ. Sussex County

there's a foot of powdery cover in most places, and drifts of 3-4 feet in places on mount desert island, maine. it will be a good time for snowshoeing in acadia!

That's good news for MDI. When I was there over MLK weekend, the trails were solid ice but we managed to skate up a few mountains anyway. Carefully. I left just as the big storm came through that next weekend.

As for Franconia NH at 1200', we've got a foot+ and at least another 2-4" coming today. You can probably count on upwards of 2' at higher elevations. It's very powdery light snow so it will blow and drift a lot when the winds pick up later on today.
