More recent smaller eruptions have also had noticeable effects--for instance, the eruption of Mt Pinatubo in 1991 caused a cooling of ~1 deg F in the northern hemisphere (~.7 deg F global) with effects lasting up to three years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Pinatubo#Global_environmental_effectsI have heard of that - while the snow would be fun, it might be a net-negative if it happened again.
I was in Hawaii about a month after the eruption--the sunsets were spectacular (due to the airborne particulates). Didn't check the summit snowpack on Mauna Loa...
