I have the PUR hiker microfilter which is now Katadyn (sp) since they bought PUR out a few years ago. When you get back from a hike where you have used your filter what do you do?

I believe my directions say to run a solution of bleach and water (not sure of the dilution off hand) through the filter to kill any organisms or parasites that may be there. Then to soak the filter in the solution and after about 30 minutes remove the filter and let air dry.

Anyways this is what I do after a trip. Anyone else have any suggestions on what should be or shouldn't be done?

Thanks,
ADAM

Cleaning PUR Hiker filters

I, too, have a PUR Hiker. I just follow the directions as you noted. Nothing else is normally needed.

If I filtered water with a lot of sand or dirt that was in suspended solution, then I rinse the filter repeatedly (along with the housing and water tubes) before using the bleach.
