Date of Hike: Tue. Jan. 4, 2011
Trails: Ravine Lodge Rd., Gorge Brook Trail
Conditions: Road walk was easy with a mixture of packed snow and ice with half the road length bare. Gorge Brook Tr. was well packed out, bumpy, and solid with some flow ice patches. No blow-downs. The trail is in excellent shape right now. There was a dusting of new snow higher up. The sun was out this morning, which made for a nice still hike, but the summit was socked in with fog, with visibility only about 150 ft. There was a breeze at the summit, but not that bad. Started to spit snow flurries on the way down. I saw one other hiker today with his dog. I used Hillsounds from the get go. Nice not to have to carry snowshoes and crampons today.
