Trails/Peaks Saddleback and the Horn from Route 4 out and back- AT
Trail Conditions Wet near the ponds along the AT, ridge was mostly dry.
Cast of Characters: Russell, Helen, CrazyBob, Petch, Henrietta and friend
Commentary:
Not going to write a lot on this one. But I will say this has to be in my top 5 above tree-line hikes. Absolutely beautiful area, combined with bright sun, cool temps, fall colors, and great company made for an outstanding day in the out of doors.
A few comments:
- The AT from RT4 up to the ridge is a beautiful trail, but very wet near the ponds
- Piazza rock and the caves worth checking out, nice campsite area also
- The largest amount of bog bridges I have ever seen on one trail
- What are wild turkeys doing on top of Saddleback?
- Great views of Sugarloaf, Abraham, Rangeley Lakes, etc
- Only saw half a dozen people all day
- If your hydration system leaks, is it called a bladder infection?
- At 5pm on a Sunday afternoon - tired, weary thru hikers will gladly accept free PBR's as trail magic
Hardwoods along the AT
Looking down at Eddy Pond
Mountain color West of Rangeley
On the way up to Saddleback
Rangeley Lakes from the ridge
The Horn in the distance
Abraham
Saddleback and a native bird
Great views from the ridge
hugs, kisses
Petch
