I noticed the ramp up during the week down here in the northern Lakes Region. It's going to be a loud two weekends coming up! It's amazing how far away you can hear those Harleys.

Cant wait

Already makin my plans for the Bike week! I have a friend up here in the "Great North Woods" that has a summer place right behind the Paradise. I enjoy the hill climb at Gunstock the most. I also have a buddy that lives in Gunstock Acres and will be spending time there as well.

This is the best week of the year and the wife and I enjoy it to the max!

We enjoy riding but stay far, far away from bike week activities. :D

No plans for bike week, but I did pick myself up a nice used Honda V45 Magna this weekend. 45 mpg is better than my truck gets!

Up until today, it's been fairly quiet bikewise, with the Conway Daily Sun reporting numbers are way down (citing the economy and gas prices). Personally, I think the weather is the primary reason behind this, as there has been rain in the forecast pretty much every day since Saturday. Nonetheless, I can report that bike traffic appears to be up significantly today.

Hiked Osseo Trail today, definitely more traffic in Lincoln than earlier in the week, but I would guess quite a bit less than usual.

Yesterday I did a round trip to Boston, amazed at how few bikes I saw, even in Tilton (gas for my car, coffee for me :D).

Bikes were noticeable on the I-93 down 'n' up today. All were riding very cautiously. The Border Patrol has set up shop again on I-93, this time at Exit 30, southbound only. Of course, one is always certain they'll want to see your license and this will be the time you left it on the kitchen table.
(I'm sure there's a term for that syndrome.) But I was waved on through. As has been discussed in previous threads, this has been going on for years. Today there was a larger force than usual.

An amazing amount of bikes! I hiked Pierce on Wednesday (in honor of the Celtics captain) and you could hear the bikes most of the way up. I fished the Saco all day yesterday and the roar was constant, as was the traffic in No. Conway.

And as Waumbek reported, Border Patrol was on Rt 93 BOTH Wed and Thur. I asked the agent if they were there to find drugs or illegals and he said, "you name it, we want it".

Oh, bike week - I thought you might have been talking about more people riding them for the gas mileage. I've certainly thought about it, my commute would be a fine one on a motorcycle (okay, Rte 2 at rush hour might be classified as "scary").

I came home Thursday night after four days of exile in Boston... stopped by our house site and was outside looking at something when I heard a big cheer from a large group of people somewhere down in the center of Waterville. On my way home, I detoured along Village Road and found the source: great big outdoor party and barbeque, maybe 75 or 100 bikes, lots of people milling around and laughing, having a good time (but very mellow).

My guess is the groups that choose to stay up here, 30 miles from the action in the Weirs, are self-selected for mellow, which is a nice thing. Lots of rumbling this AM as people storm out of town and head south to Laconia, though.

Sunday, I hiked out to Black Pond. I could hear them all the way there, even at the pond. It was wonderful to see the torrential downpours as I drove back over the Kancamagus, the only peaceful time during bike week, which is now thankfully over.

who cares about the bikes?????

nothing wrong with like minded people getting together to have fun in the mountains. some do it by bushwhacking, some by hiking, some by climbing, some by riding their harleys down the kanc. all good.

I hiked on fri-sat, heard many of bikes - it doesn't bother me. people having fun in their own way is a good thing.

my guess is people saying stuff about the bikers don't have the balls to say it to their face. I challenge anyone to go up to someone with a hells angel or outlaws patch on their jacket and say the noise and traffic is a problem while I am hiking. ;) ;) hahahaha

Live Free or Die! :D :D

the only peaceful time during bike week,

If you want quiet, don't hike next to a highway. That statement reminds me of the people who whine about snowmobiles, If you don't like them, DON'T HIKE ON SNOWMOBILE TRAILS.
Don't even get me started over the annoying cessnas buzzing overhead...

I certainly don't equate bikers with Hell's Angels. I've been in the Whites on Biker Week a few times and the bikers I came in contact with where good people, most mind their own business and don't bother you. Hell's Angels are nothing more than an organized crime gang.

Hahaha.. Yeah. That pretty much rules out all of the trails in the Whites! Don't like bikes? Hike in the ADKs. ;)

As someone planning to motor up and down the Kanc on a bike this summer, I say:" :p "

It gets old really quickly when you live in the area and have to listen to the loud bikes for a dozen days straight. We used to have a similar event where I lived in Michigan and I didn't hesitate to voice my opinion to the bikers :) I don't have that much of a problem with it, but the noise gets old, especially when you can't get away from it, even deep in the woods.
