Hi Everyone!

For Flags on the 48, I was hoping to hike Carrigain...but with the Sawyer River damage, the hike was too long for me to feel comfortable. So, instead, I recruited my cousin (who I had never hiked with...and had never hiked NH) and we went up to the summit of Mount Pierce. Unfortunately, we left too early and missed the flags. I completely miscalculated our transit time and hiking time.

The hike was great. The temperatures were perfect. This was my first time up the Crawford Path too. My full trip report and pictures are on my blog:

Please take a moment and visit it if you have time.

Probably the best thing that came out of the trip was that my cousin is now going to pursue the 48! This was my 10th and her 1st!

Here are a couple of my favorite shots:

Nice Karl. The pic looking up towards Eisenhower and beyond, reminds me of the first time I hiked the Crawford path. As you break from the trees near Pierce and look up at the Southern Presi's for the first time- it's a jaw dropping moment.

Completely agree with Petch's comment!

And wow Karl . . . you certainly provided your cousin with a fantastic introduction to the NH48!

Nice pics! Pierce is a great choice to take someone on their first 4,000 footer.

Hi PETCH - Thanks! You are right about that first view of the southern prezi's! Unfortunately for us, Washington was in the clouds that morning. If it was completely clear, it would have really made the view something else!

Hi John - Thanks! I think she enjoyed it. She's heading up to claim #2 on her 48 list this weekend. Moosilauke is her next target!

Hi Raven - Thanks! I agree. I would say, out of the 10 4K's I've hiked, this lolly-loop was probably the easiest of them all. Very moderate grades on the Crawford Path.

Thanks everyone, for checking out my trip report!

I agree, I my girlfriend and I hiked it for the first time sunday and before that if you asked me the best nh48 to start someone on I would have said oceola. When you come out of those trees and see the ridge open up it is very impressive.

Jim - Totally agree. Definitely a great beginner 4K!

Patrick - Thanks, I think I did create another hiking junkie!
