I out and backed this as a dayhike via the Jerusalem and Long Trails - it would have been easy if it was not 100 degrees and humid...Jerusalem is real easy - a little pitch at the end, but that is it...water is fairly sparse - I recall one spring a bit off the trail.

Hope you get a clear view. IMO the view from Abraham is one of the best in NE. You are pretty much in the middle of Vermont looking N & S/up and down the Greens, the ADK on one side and the Whites on the other. SWeeeeeeet! :D

Great views. Labor Day offered severe clear/60-70 degrees/dry/no bugs. We stayed at Sugartree Inn, a B&B near Sugarbush ski area which offered superb breakfast via their newly installed AGA oven. Highly recommend it.

was out there two weeks ago, did not hit Abe (instead north to Camels Hump), but stayed at Glen Ellen and Cowles Cove. Glen Ellen has a better view from the site than Battel (or just about anywhere, except maybe Starks Nest - which IS still open). GEL is also enclosed with bunks and a table.

Both sites are very close to the respective trailheads, so one day or the other will be much shorter than the other. If you opt go S-N, you can stay at Glen Ellen, then since the next day is only 3.5 to App gap, you can do an out and back to Molly Stark's Balcony, where there is also good views.

The summits are 6.5 miles apart, so if you chose to drop your pack and then do an out and back, might be kind of a long day, not sure what your ablity level is.

My trip, since I did not have a carspot:
1-up to Ellen, backtracked to Glen Ellen Lodge - 7.5 miles
2-Glen Ellen to Cowles Cove - 8.5 miles
3-Out and back to Camel's Hump - 14 miles
4-Back to App Gap - 5 miles

made for a decent trip, I have just gotten back into backpacking due to knee problems (two year layoff until September), so I was more conservative than most would need to be on the mileage and had to provide reasonable bail out options if needed, perhaps that is why the sites are close to trailheads.

Thanks everyone for all of the great information.

This trip will have to be postponed until sometime in November.

:)
