I was just wondering if anybody knows if the old fire tower on Mt bemis is on the true summit. The reason I ask Is that a couple years back when I hiked bemis I never found the remains of the old tower. We hiked it in the winter and we used a gps to find what we thought was the highest point.

thanks,
Caleb.

Nope. The true summit is a bump maybe 50 yards south of the trail and also south ot the tower detritus, reached through fairly thick evergreenery. As I recall, it is 10-15 feet higher than the tower highpoint.

I agree with Amicus... :)

Must have been lots of snow because the old fire tower wreckage is a huge pile of debris...

there was a fair amount of snow but the main reason for not finding the remains was we did not climb up the traditional way via the old tower road we bush wacked to what we thought was the summit from the nancy pond trail starting some where above nancy falls and this was after wacking anderson.
