It snowed on us all day, but 13 hardy souls and 1 dog managed to reach the summit of Mt Carrigan 7 hours after starting out on this 10 1/2 hour round trip hike.

Breaking trail though 2 feet of snow with some drifts of 4 feet on the ridge, we inched our way to the summit arriving at 3:30 PM. Breaking out food, drink, and presents we celbrated the success of Skimom who completed the NH48 list and Arm who completed the Winter NH48 list.

Photos and trip report are on our web page:

WTG Arm and Skimom! It sure was a tough day out there yesterday and Ivy and I often wondered how you were all doing.

Honestly the single hardest hike I have ever done. The challenges of trail breaking during a wicked snowstorm is indescribable. I had one hell of a time.

Special thanks to arm for his stunning personality which I truly enjoy, thanks to bob and geri for their hospitlity and putting up with "the annoying" one for the weekend. Thanks to MarshallM for the hand warmers in my moment of dire straights, thanks to Charles Dona and Congrats to him as well for finishing HIS 48 on Carrigain 2 weeks back! Thanks to mad Townie for the compliment, I hope to meet your son some day. Thanks to that machine of a man who broke trail for what seemed like forever and even lead us across signal ridge safely. Than to Donna for the compliment as well.

And Congrats to SKIMOM for finishing her All Season 48 and Arm for his winters!

What a wonderful group. I had a blast as usual. Definately a very hard trip, endurance, fortitude and determination tested. A right of passage for sure.

Skimom -- Congrats! I wish I could have been there and then after looking at Bob & Geri's photos I got really jealous that I wasn't!

Was the little gift thing still tied to the tower? When I went up there two weeks ago, there was a little gift & a note that said something like, "Congratulations Skimom."

Yes - it was found just before she headed down - a little thing like 2 feet of snow made it hard to spot :>

Congratulations to both SkiMom and Arm. Well done and to finish in such style will be something to truly remember.

Three of us (and another group of 3) followed in your hard fought footsteps on Sunday and were treated to a wonderful day. Thanks again for the trailbreaking.

You guys rule!

That was a hell of an accomplishment.

Had I tried to tag along any further than I did, I'd probably still be on the mountain somewhere, whimpering and refusing to move. As it was, I was having some discomfort with hip flexor tendinitis. The fact that our tracks along the road had already filled in again didn't help. By the time I made it back to the car, those puppies were screaming with every step. I spent the rest of the afternoon lounging in front of the fire at the Highland Center, gulping asperin and wondering when (and if) you guys would ever make it out.

Way to go!

Yup. Tough one, all right. Thanks to Arm and Doug of the Yellow Coat for taking the lion's share of the trailbreaking duties. What a beautiful day, though! It just took a little time, that's all.

Let me add my public congratulations to Skimom and Arm for your most noteworthy accomplishments. I hope you'll be able to join me when I finish my 48. Let's see, first one in 1978, up to about 15 now, hmmmm . . . another 60 years or so and I should be almost done! :D

Missed all of you who didn't make it. SherpaK, we STILL haven't walked together! I was really looking forward to having another snail along.

Oh Jeez! Arm -- Congratulations as well! I didn't realize that you were completing a list as well!

Congratulations Skimom and Arm! :D :D Yes, tough hike but well worth it! Many thanks to those who took the lead in the trailbreaking! This trip will be well remembered.

NICE WORK Skimom and Arm!

A wonderful story, and great accomplishments all. Wow, some effort! Sorry I missed all that trail-breaking and all of the rest of the fun. I look forward to finishing a couple of lists on Carrigain in the years to come, but I hope I am on a schedule that will wrap up in under 60 years.

Haven't heard much about the after-party yet . . Any photos from that part of the day??

To SkiMom, ARM & the entire Carrigain Crew,

I'm sooooo happy for all of you! :) :) :) It was a tough day out there & took a lot of everything you had to complete the trip. I wish we could have celebrated together, but it would have been a breakfast (Sun.) celebration if we continued the bushwhack.

White... after party pics would have been pics of Bob and Geri and Myself... everyone else was so tired! We almost fell asleep at the table in that noise Red Parka Pub!

“What can I say? I tip my hat and call you guys my daddy.”
;) ;) ;)

Congratulations, now I really feel regret not going with you guys ...
Next time, definately, I'll go...

Head Slug here. I was sitting at my desk all day (and well into the night) looking out at the snow falling, wishing I was there. Carrigain is still on my winter list, and I truly wish I had been there. And I missed all of the summit hugs :(

Congrats to you both! Here's to more adventures in the future! Next time, w*rk will have to wait (of course, we all know how THAT usually turns out...)

MadTownie: I have 10 left got my winter and am trying to get out this weekend on Carter Dome. I'll likely stay at Hiker's Paradise on Friday night. Got my fingers crossed...
