This is a 2200 foot summit near Elbow Pond. Anyone hike it? I assume its a bushwhack from a couple different possible embarkation points (near the pond or somewhere along the logging road to its west).

Any advice welcome. It looks steep to the east and southeast; are there ledges there? Any views?

Mt Cilley/ghost town of Peeling

Never hiked it before, but have spent the afternoon at Elbow Pond last May. The road kind of peters out along the pond and since I'm not a bushwhacker (yet) I didn't follow the shoreline any further. Here is some information that might be useful on the old town and ways to get there.
Mt Cilley/Peeling

From what I remember the woods didn't look too thick going uphill from Elbow Pond, but I'd check back with that. We went in April, and it looked almost straightforward just to walk up the hill...but again who knows since I don't bushwhack!!

This might be useful too! Mt Cilley Trail

And finally, my Elbow Pond pics if u are interested. Elbow Pond

Back in the mid-80's I hiked a section of that trail, right after it had been closed due to massive blowdowns from a severe windstorm. We started on 118 just below the highly popular moose wallow above that first big turn. The signs were already gone but at the time the trailhead was very easy to find.

We made it up to the wonderful cellar holes of the old settlement in Peeling, including a cool stone culvert. It was easy to follow up to that point, but once you hit blowdown section there was essentially no trail left.

I've also not done Mt. Cilley, but have hiked up to Peeling from the Route 3 side. I had a bit of difficulty finding the start of the trail, but once I found it, the trail was easy to follow, though muddy in places. I think at least part of it is a snowmobile trail. I'm not sure whether I ever found the Town Square that is mentioned in various places, but I did find a few cellar holes. My time was limited that day, so I had to turn back before I had explored as much as I wanted to.

ETA: Here's a link to a map at a mountain bike site that shows the trails (and complains about the trail conditions, so be ye forewarned...).

Did Grandview not Cilley

I went on a hike this spring through the valley between Mt Cilley and Grandview. We parked here: N44 00 28.3 W71 44 25.4. We didn’t climb Cilley but, we did climb Grandview. There weren’t any views to speak of. There’s a cool blowdown on the summit. It took us a little while to find the TH, actually former TH. This portion of the trail has been out of use for a long while.

The bushwack from Rt 118 was pretty easy once we got over Jackman brook. We found the snowmobile trail then there’s flagging to the summit of Grandview. The trail to Mt Cilley village from Rt 3 is at the end of a driveway. That’s all I’m allowed to say. You can find it I’m sure.

When we hiked it the trails were in fine shape. Lots of Moose prints and tons of animal scat.

I don’t know if there’s a view from Mt Cilley. It would be fun to find out.

I have hiked to Mt Cilley and don't remember any particular views.

I hiked the Mt Cilley Trail from both ends while it was still open, the first time there were cardboard signs identifying the various cellar holes and the side trail to Grandview Mtn but they were pretty well gone by the next time.
