Mt. Davis is such a beautiful place. It's a blessing that it's not a 4k because it's so quiet and secluded. You can be there for hours in solitude on a weekend in August. The views are incredible in all directions.

A group was going up Glen Boulder Trail to Slide Peak then down the Montelban Ridge. I decided to hike up the Rocky Branch Trail to Davis Path until I met them, hoping to get to Mt. Davis to enjoy the summit. Then I'd hike with them back out.

The hike up to Stairs Mtn. was nice. Here a view west...

The Davis Path from Stairs Mtn. to Mt. Davis is beautiful. I hadn't been there for years. I saw a grouse hen with a few youngsters. Here one of the chicks...

There are lots of little saddles and swampy areas that look prime for future exploring. Here's a nice patch of turtle heads...

a sample of the many pretty mushrooms along the trail...

I was happy to reach the summit of Mt. Davis before the group got there so I could relax and rest and take a few pics. The conditions were not the best for pictures but it was incredibly nice. The views here are spectacular...

After a nice nap the group emerged on the summit. Here's Raoul and Rocket21 and Jeb. They thought I was a no-show and didn't know I was hiking in from the other direction.

Also with the group was Karen, a very nice lady from Tamworth. We had a nice time on the summit and then a nice hike out. Here's Karen and Raoul relaxing on Stairs Mtn.

Patrick . . . that last shot in your trip report (the one of Karen and Raoul) is just so awesome in so many ways! Thanks for sharing.

John took the words out of my mouth. This, right here, is hiking, in a nutshell. It tells so many stories...the saying of a pic is worth 1000 words...yup. :)

I also like the fungi shot! Good stuff!

Go to the true summit of Mt Davis and you won't ever have to worry about crowds, and lots more ledges :)

I love that last shot as well, especially the "heavenly rays" coming down from above. You captured that outdoors mood perfectly! :)

How was Davis Path b/t Stairs and Davis?

Blowdown and route finding situations, particularly....
