Date of Hike: June 9, 2013
Trail Conditions: Due to recent weather the Glencliff Trail was wetter than usual, the rocks and roots particularly slippery, but all crossings were easy so a little care was all that was needed. (It should also be noted that the spur to the south summit was likewise clear but wet and slick in places.) There were a few patches of mud, with the worst actually being between the AT junction and the parking lot, but nearly all were easy to avoid. There was one blowdown which was easy enough to get over or around, but required getting off trail just slightly to do it. There was also another blowdown, but it was off to the side and not really an issue. The Carriage Road, at least the portion above the Glencliff junction, was barely wet and in pretty good shape offering almost no mud.
Special Equipment Used: None.
Comments: Hiked this one with my friends Inna, Eugene, and Michael, and was part of a large summit gathering of friends on a Facebook Group. The event was run by another friend, Samantha. We all hiked in smaller groups via different trails so as to minimize impact caused by our larger-than-normal numbers. It started foggy and breezy on the summit -- which later cleared -- but we all had a terrific time.
