Date of Hike: Sep 1, 2012
Trail Conditions: All trails were in normal summer condition. Gorge Brook Trail was diverted from Snapper Trail over to itself further up due to Irene damage. The new connector is a work in progress and in serious need of drainages and water bars, even in more places than it's marked for. The section had some mud and it was no big deal, but because of the way the trail is made, during and after a rain (or in the spring) it's going to be wet and wicked mess. Carriage Road was dusty dry. Snapper Trail was also in great shape, even though there is an easy-over blowdown on that trail.
Special Equipment Required: None.
Bugs: No pests noted.
Other: The Lodge was having an event and I now know that when that happens, the whole south side of the mountain must play along. More than two miles from the lodge, upon descent, I could hear the music and yelling. It never went away. Had we ascended later in the day I bet we would've heard it all day long. Should I complain, do I have a right? It's not my mountain. But it didn't made me happy to hear all that. I had no choice at that point. I like the quiet of the mountains and there was little of that on this hike. I don't mind sharing the mountains, but it was a little much.
Comments: I hiked with a friend, Sarah, an experienced hiker that did well even though she hadn't hiked this year. This is an easy loop and would be suitable for hikers with even less experience provided the trails don't confuse them.
