I managed somehow to get Mad Townie to agree to go for a hike! We decided on Mt Moriah so Geneva could put one more paw print on her map of the 48 for winter.
It was a beautiful day to go for a hike, and I had never been on the Carter Moriah Trail from that end before. It was a really nice gradual climb, nothing too steep anywhere, and lots and lots of amazing views along the way. Oh, and perhaps one or two or seven false summits…
The 'real' summit was nicely shoveled off in a circle right around the survey marker and made the perfect spot for a very pleasant long and leisurely lunch break and a chat with a nice young couple who were up there heating up some lunch themselves.
It doesn't get any better than being able to lounge on a summit in the sunshine in winter! Oh, and having a couple of cans of locally brewed and freshly canned Iron Mike Pale Ales was pretty sweet too!
The weather was cool enough for the most part that the snow stayed solid for us both up and down. But someone was up there (a few day prior maybe) with far different conditions. There were deep, and I mean really deep postholes everywhere, and a lot of them. Whoever was making them must have had a very slow, tiring and painful hike out. I think I would have sat down and cried and waited for colder weather to try to get out.
Thanks so much to Townie for a great day out in the woods, lots of laughs and great conversations, as always!
