Beautiful day for a really great hike. Up to Norcross Pond the trail is in great shape, no discernible damage from Irene despite some sobering washouts visible on Nancy Brook. Really enjoyed the trail above Nancy Cascades, from Nancy Pond to Norcross it's mostly a boardwalk through a beautiful bog filled with mosses, grasses, and flowering pitcher plants.

Reached the No Camping campsite, where someone had built a fire directly on the dirt ground. Took in the incredible views southeast across the pond and northwest to the Bonds. Headed back up the trail to where it turned southeast. An obvious trail leads northeast to another bootleg campsite. We went left where it split and followed an excellent herd path past a sign warning that it was illegal to improve this unimproved trail.

It is basically a trail up to the summit. We looked at the slide, which is getting overgrown, and decided to stick with the herd path. It is a very steep but also exhilarating ascent through a balsam and spruce forest to the top. We reached the summit outlook but could not find a canister or summit sign. I'm really hoping the canister was removed on the principle that there's an obvious trail to the top. Not that I wouldn't mind returning, this would be an outstanding autumn hike.

Back down at the pond we debated going for a swim, but it was getting late and we were unsure about how easy it would be getting in and out by the beaver dam. With some encouragement I would love to get in that water.

I'm really grateful we got the chance to climb Nancy, it was a rewarding hike.

Note: is there a way to edit the title? Should be 8/29 not 829.
