There was, but not any more. If you're real observent, you might see where someone hacked out some small trees where the jar was. PB's route is easier than the shortest 'whack (NE from the top of the steep pitch on Lawrence). My favorite (but much longer) route is to follow the ridgeline from the height of land on Bolles Trail -- nice open woods almost all the way and views to be had if you know where to look. No views on the summit. The best views on Paugus are on the south peak and at the end of some really thick 'whacks.post'r boy said:walked all over that area searchin' for a jar but never found one!!! i don't think there's one up there!
Published in 1893 by Houghton Mifflin. Steve or Mike Dickerman might have a copy for sale. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth has a circulation copy. Patronage is open to all. A copy is in the the WODC collection which is kinda in limbo right now and will probably end up in the Cook Library when the history and genealogy center is finished. Every now and then I've seen one of Bolles's books on eBay. "North of Bearcamp Water" is the only one of his books relevant to hiking in the Sandwich Range, although "From Blomidon to Smoky" is a good read on the experiences of a layman wildlife naturalist and is mostly set in the Chocorua area. "Chocorua's Tenants" is strictly poetry, but in my opinion, a step up from Larcom.bigmoose said:Stopher --
