Trailwrights worked with eleven happy workers who came from many parts of the area: Quebec, Maine, Massachusetts, and of course, New Hampshire. We spent Sat., Sept. 25 working on the Mt. Pemigewasset trail which needs much more work than we could do on one day, so we chose a particularly strenuous area that we could teach how to move rocks via a highline, and place rock steps and build rock waterbars and use paving stones. This section is not complete. Hopefully we can get back another time to finish this section, as we continue to try to find additional people to help.

This shows before where steps need to be placed.

Gene Bouley directed the installation of steps in a badly eroded area with roots. Before:.

And a view of Paul Chartier's steps from last outing. Wouldn't it be nice if the whole trail could look like this?

What a fun day, it was nice to have those come out who gave up some of their time to help a NH State Parks trail, voluntarily.

It was a very fun day, I worked hard (it doesn't look like it on the pics, but I swear I had sore muscles the day after !).

...and what to say about the amazing food treat we got at the Indian Head Resort, thanks to Gene for making that happen !!!

We'll come back again for more work next year, that's for sure :)

These are certainly fine steps, not at all like the beginning of Smarts Brook Trail where you just about need a ladder to climb them and one already came loose

But I wouldn't like a whole trail with steps, too much like downtown

Numbers

For those interested in numbers, the following are the totals for the day:
Installed 9 Rock Steps,
" 13 Paver stones,
" 2 Rock Water Bars,
" 2 Earth water Bars.
Totals= 11 people x 7.5 hrs = 82.5 Person Hrs. (Free Labor to our State Park) Value ????

Roy thanks for the nice comments. We agree we would not want steps all the way either. What we should have said is that we wish the trail could be protected from erosion as this section is.
