Woody's suggestion is a good one: I routinely tried out new gear on Monadnock. Lorax also said what I was thinking.
My first winter Washington summit was with Arm and Frodo (talk about hitting the gold mine!). I was a lot slower than they were, but knew the area from a bunch of times up there. Despite my familiarity with the area, I found myself being very conservative, never moving too far away from any cairn until I could see the next one. Despite that, I know I made Arm and Frodo nervous as on one occasion Frodo retraced his steps to make sure I was doing fine.
Jackson is a great summit to climb in winter, and sheltered to the last 200 feet.
