I was fortunate to meet one 2 great friends when I first hiked Waumbek. We climbed it 4 days after a snowstorm, and when we reached the mile between Starr King and Waumbek, we were in our own little winter wonderland. A memorable day, even if I could not stay to see their anatomically correct snowpeople Like JohnL says (and others echo), you don't have to smell the roses, just know they are there. Waumbek (and Zealand) are both keepers.
BTW, next time you do Waumbek, stop at the Water Wheel for breakfast. If that doesn't put you in a good mood for a hike, nothing will.
